Polish stipends for ASU

Summer Polish Stipends

Owing to a generous donation from the Consulate of the Republic of Poland in Los Angeles, ASU Polish Program will fund up to three qualified ASU students to take part in the six-week Polish language and culture courses. The courses will take place from early July to mid-August, 2014 at Jagiellonian University ( en.wikipedia.org one of the oldest universities in the world, in Kraków, Poland ( en.wikipedia.org one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Each stipend will amount to up to $5000 to cover the costs of a risk management program, transportation, lodging, fare, and testing. The recipients will be required to submit the proof of course completion and the test results upon their return.

Students will also be required to take the following test at the end of their stay: www.certyfikatpolski.pl The credits earned in Poland can be transferred to ASU through ASU International ( international.asu.edu

All interested ASU students should compose a succinct application letter (not more than 500 words) in which the following issues should be addressed:

Candidate’s commitment to Polish language and culture learning (the source of motivation to improve Polish as well as hitherto completed classes and other forms of learning),
Immediate plans of deployment of the knowledge gained in Kraków (e.g., working toward the minor in Slavic studies, improving some kind of Polish community work, etc.),
The role of the Polish language and culture in the candidate’s long-term professional and community engagement (e.g., Poland-related graduate study, work in Poland, etc.)

The application letters and the current unofficial ASU transcript or proof of registration for AY 2014-2015 (for incoming freshmen) should be sent to: Danko.Sipka@asu.edu by January 31, 2014.
